Virtual Podium 2020
Social distancing is a MUST, but don't distance the science!
Our Mission
Virtual Podium was established to promote scientific discussion and engagement during a trying time in our global history.
Social distancing is a MUST, but don't distance the science! Due to COVID-19, many of us have been impacted by the cancellation of conferences. We are not only losing the opportunity to present our research, but a chance to connect with our community.

On March 20th, 2020, as the impact of COVID-19 became very apparent to our community, we launched Virtual Podium—a platform and opportunity to share, present, and challenge the science of mass spectrometry-based biology. Using a virtual platform, we are creating a sense of community and providing opportunities to present and learn about compelling scientific research in fields centered on chemistry, biology, and informatics.
Join us online every Friday to hear innovative lightning talks and expert keynote speakers discuss the latest research on Omics-related studies, including Metabolomics and Lipidomics.
FEATURED INDUSTRY EXPERT
Meet The Team
Baljit K. Ubhi, PhD
Senior Market Development Manager, Life Science Research – Americas at SCIEX
Has over 15 years of experience of applying metabolomics applications in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Within her roles at SCIEX, she has held technical, scientific, marketing and product management positions. In her spare time, she loves to spend her weekends outdoors going on hikes with her husband and son, enjoying wine, exploring new flavors through cooking, listening to jazz music and road biking!
Arpana Vaniya, PhD
Postdoctoral Scholar & Academic Coordinator at the UC Davis West Metabolomics Center
Has been in the field of mass spectrometry-based Metabolomics for 10 years. She has been working on topics related to compound identification, developing mass spectral reference libraries, and studies related to plants & food. As an academic coordinator, she develops Metabolomics content for professional education courses. She has been an instructor at the WCMC for 6 years. Outside of lab, she loves to watch movies, listen to music, dance, and volunteer at events or outreach programs that advocate women and girls in STEM. She considers herself to be a STEMINIST.
Ivana Blaženović, PhD
Senior Metabolomics Scientist at DiscernDx
As a scientist, her interests are in computational mass spectrometry, computational Metabolomics as well as Cheminformatics, focusing especially on structural elucidation of small metabolites and molecules. She has experience in applying Metabolomics and Lipidomics workflows in academia and bioindustry. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family, run, bike and go to as many Erykah Badu concerts as she can.
Christina M. Jones, PhD
Research Chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology
She has led programmatic efforts focused on quality assurance as well as quality control for Metabolomics at NIST. Having joined NIST in 2015, she has over 10 years of experience in the field. She helped start a mass spectrometry-based environmental Metabolomics program and is applying mass spectrometry-based Metabolomics to human health applications such as cancer detection. In her spare time, she loves to read, debate, participate in STEM outreach, watch documentaries, eat Louisiana cuisine, and listen to Beyoncé.
Alice Dalo
Staff Research Associate at the UC Davis West Coast Metabolomics Center
As a Research Associate at the UC Davis West Coast Metabolomics Center, she analyzes the metabolic profiles of an array of clinical and biomedical samples through GC-MS and leads an analysis of in silico fragmentation techniques in maximizing compound identification. She is moving onto medical school this Fall, and hopes to continue contributing to the ‘Omics’ field in Precision Medicine. Outside of the lab, she loves to box, listen to My Favorite Murder, and make puns.
